what is the difference between fireforming with cream of wheat and pistol powder than just a regular load with rifle powder and just steping the load down to the minimum?

To save 80 grains (for 338 lapua) of powder and a bullet going down range just to fireform.

The one thing good about the Ackley improved cartridges is you can safely shoot the regular ammo in the Ackley improved chamber.

Those are not Squinty's hands. Those are the hard-working hands of a construction worker.

Squinty has the soft pink hands of a lazy worthless schmoe. He is a desk-bound, overweight schnook. But at least he feeds me properly.

We do not have any Ackley improved calibers. But if we did, we would just fireform the cases using normal loads. One should only use pistol powders if one actually has a lot of handloading experience. Squinty is a dope and that's why I would never allow him to do this.

I just want everyone to see this picture because that rifle became a grenade. The shooter was very lucky not to be killed. A stupid handload can do more than just schmoe out a rifle. It can end your lifel

Be careful and don't be a schmoe.

Any method where one grain of powder can lead to disaster is NOT one that should be used. Far too many ways for bad things to happen.

But then again it's your firearms.

I was back at the range today. I found out that the piece of gun barrel in the picture was found some 70 yards downrange. Can you imagine the force required to send a one pound piece of steel 70 yards?

The shooter was so lucky that he should go out and buy lottery tickets.

Not only did the shooter have a gaurdian angel that day but so did everyone else at the range. It's bad if the guy who loaded wrong kills himself, it's tragic when a shooter is at the range minding his own business and he is killed by someone else's error.

I lost an eye due to someone else's careless mistake.

I think I would just load to factory specs for the original cartridge and enjoy a way to make AI brass and get some practical shooting in with my rifles, but as has been pointed out in this thread by a few people, fireforming with pistol powder is perfectly safe as long as the person knows what they are doing.
