    .308 load--Barnes TSX bullet

Here up north deer season begins September 1.

I love venison and unfortunately, I have to rely on Mr. Squinty's dubious marksmanship skills. I have to send a schmoe on a man's job.

Anyway, I want to load the 150 grain Barnes TSX bullet. I need Squinty to launch this slug in our F-51. So does anyone here have any experience loading the .308 Winchester with this bullet.

I'm thinking of trying 45 grains of Varget or IMR-4064. Comments please.

By the way, I'm sending Squinty out today to pick up our mule deer tag. I'm so excited. With a little luck I will be enjoying a delicious repast of pan-fried venison wrapped in candied Swedish gravlax complete with capers and herring. Deee--lish.

I don't shoot the Barnes bullet, but I do shoot 150 gr Noslers with RL15 with good results. Here is Barnes' data:

The Barnes TSX is a great bullet. the book says the starting load is 43.5 gr's of varget at 2681 fps, max load of 48 gr's varget for 2912 fps. I have loaded 150's wth 45.5 and great results...very accurate!
Roses are red, my locktite is blue, without any ammo, what am I to do?

    hey

Barnes are good bullets. just shit expensive, and sometimes takes some time to get them to shoot well out of your gun, just have to play with it. They like to be on the lands a little so keep that in mind. You may also want to look at the nosler accubonds, they seem to be getting some great reviews. i have not tried them yet. I might try the noslers in my .260 as iam looking for a good target/hunting round.

    good luck with your loads.

    Operation Tender Vittles

The first stage of Operation Tender Vittles is under way. Squinty is off to the range to test my load:

46.0 grains of Varget, 150 grain Barnes TSX, Winchester brass, CCI match primer, OAL 2.76".

    hey

good luck with it. Wish i had some time to actually load and shoot these days. lol. my 100 yard range is an hour away so i have a 25 yard range 5 min away. which isnt to much fun but works for load testing.

hopefully it works out for you.

    Re: Operation Tender Vittles:

My Barnes load shoots 1.5 inches higher at 100 yards than my 168 grain Sierra Match King load.

My brilliant master plan is working to perfection......

Fluffy let me know what you think of the damage that the Barnes does after you shoot Bambi. I picked up some 180 tipped TSX's that I am going to work up for Nov.

I hit an oryx at around 70 yards with no meat damage! the tsx worked great! I found it to be just as accurate as smk's loads.
