    Factory Ammo - HSM 308 Winchester 168 Grain A Max - Dirty?

    Guys,

I have been shootiing my remington 700 PSS 308 Win and since I am a dealer and have some HSM over stock in 308 Winchester 168 Gr A Max Match I figured I'd fire some and see how it does. The results were great but has any one else found HSM Ammo to be really dirty ? I used some of the 6.8SPC 110 Grain in my Remington 700 6.8SPC and it was very dirty as well. The ammo shoots awesome but it seems to be dirty. For the price and how good the end result is I give it an "A" but as far as how clean I have experienced I give it a "D-". How about you guys ? Why is it so dirty any clues to what they use to load ?

Dirty is awfully subjective. Many feel Varget is dirty. I know several men who use HSM and it seems to stay accurate even after 100 rounds. All the bores were dirty and took some cleaning. That oneshot spray type cleaner makes simple work of any cleaning session.

HSM may seem dirty to some, but I'm not sure its all that dirty, certainly not too much for Hoppes.

Now a dirty powder is that Clays in a 45. I have to chip carbon around the feedramp insert after 100 rounds!

Now i have shot thousands of rounds of HSM.

Threw a ar10 i seen it was dirty. bolt gun i never worried really. I use alot of IMR 4350 in everything and some say thats really dirty.

So its one of those things does your rifle like how it shoots. if so i think i would put up with alittle more cleaning if it shoots good.

Now most my rifles shine with 50 rounds and under. granted i have never put 100 threw them to see where they shoot. But on average i put 20tops and clean

So its are you willing to deal with it being alittle dirty.

    Cleaning

No matter what I always clean my firearms at the end of a shoot. When Im doing break in a shoot 1 clean shot one clean then go to 3 clean 3 clean and so on, just curious if others found HSM to be really dirty, dont get me wrong its great shooting ammo and holds a group. I wonder what powder they use?
