    .338LM Armor Piercing

Has anyone tried the 162 gr AP bullets offered by alliance armament? They claim to get 3600+ fps and penetration at 200yrds of 3/4 inch steel plate. I contacted the company and asked what charge they were using and was told they have only test IMR 4831 @ 100 grains (compression Load).

They aren't very cheap ($71.50 for 50 bullets), but was just curious if anyone has any expierience with them. Thanks for any replies.
I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

    ICAS - buy that ammo!!!

Just to make you feel better: in Australia, .338LM ammo varies from $800 - $900 for 100rnds. That is US dollars by the way.
The armour piercing is about $1400 per 100.

I just paid about $65USD for 20 rnds of Federal Gold Medal Match in .300 win mag (the one loaded with 190gn SMK's).
    Yes, really!

Your $70 for 50 is cheap

Mark where are you getting your ammo if its 800-900 per 100, thats WAY to expensive, go buy yourself 5 boxes of Nosler custom 338LM ammo, they are $130 a box of 20 (so $690 for 100), they use Lapua brass and its a 225gr accubond at 3025fps, i re-used my cases and have loaded up 250gr accubonds, 235gr Predator projectiles and soon some 300SMK's. Or go on the cheap $375 for 100 empty Lapua cases 2 boxes of Nosler 250gr at about $140 for both and some AR2217, all up if you have the dies its under $600 for 100 and you can tune your loads. AP rounds are a total waste of time in my book, i have never seen a deer in a tank, the predator projectiles are a monolithic projectile and Ive put them through steel just for kicks out past 800 (mind you it was only 10mm steel plate).

Not having a go at you Mark but some people will try and rip you off big time for 338LM ammo here in Australia, its still in short supply and the dealers know it. I have seen Black hills and ADI 338LM at over $230 a box of 20 so i know where you are coming from.

oh BTW here is the link to predator projectiles. Wello on here is the man you need to speak to, his site does state that these ARE NOT Armor piercing, but dam they go through things well as a 338LM will. Mark he sells projectiles for your 300WM also if your interested in reloading, hes very helpful with data if needed.

    Mark Austalia,
You do understand that it is $70 for 50 bullets (projectiles only, not loaded rounds) Just seems expensive when I can buy 100, 250gr scenars for $60.
I'd rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

I swear we have a useless government here, they ban the 338LM why??? because it can kill. so can a plastic picnic knife and fork set. Someone who wants to kill alot of people isn't going to pick a rifle that takes $7 a shot bullets. Makes me want to pack up and leave this country before they have police checking if we wipe our a$$ before we leave the house. Sorry to hear they have stopped the 338LM in WA, i thought it was just SA. Makes me really annoyed at that.

I guess my question would be why do you need AP rounds? Unless of course you are in a combat zone or LE planning to shoot at hard targets.
