(Your Opinion) Whats the best powder for .308

    Hi guys,
I was just wondering what you think the best powder and primers are for the .308. I live in australia and the main two powders I can get are AR 2208 and reloader 15

The 2 that you have are the best.

    AR2208 is Varget.

Load both powders and stick with the best from your rifle.

Varget is great in a .308. Gives excellent velocity and is very temp insensitive. It's all I use in my .308.

I would say that Varget, RL-15, IMR-8208-XBR, and IMR-4064 are tops. Varget and RL-15 are probably the most versatile. My best groups are with IMR-8208-XBR (41.5 grains), Winchester cases, Winchester WLR primers and 168 grain SMK's, COL is 2.825", chronographed velocity from my 26" barrel is 2603 ft/sec.

AR2208, i buy it in the 4kg tub/bottle. 44.8gr behind a Nosler 168gr Custom comp projectile at 2.800 COAL i can clover leaf at 100 all day. (work your own load for safety please)

I don't load 308 but after the results I've had with Reloader 17 in a 260, if I did shoot a 308, I would definetly give it a try. More velocity and better accuracy than any powder I've tried yet.

I like Varget. For the reasons already stated above. It might be a bit slower than R15, but I like how consistent it is.
