Re: 168 grain Sierra for 600 yard matches

    Thanks Gentlemen,

It seems that the more I shoot this load, the luckier I get with it. As I remember looking back over my shooting of accurate rifles, my best groups have always been shot in early morning practice sessions when I was alone on the range or at least my spotter was there. Consistant wind conditions, good light and no distractions. I have won presicious few matches because, as my shooting partner puts it, the compition monkey gets on my back. But that is OK I guess, I just enjoy shooting and reloading my ammo. At the range outside of 29 Palms, we all have a key to the range. If my shooting partner and I go out there during the week, we most of the time will have the range to ourselves. So our shooting is relaxing, un-hurried. Heck, we will shoot a little while and BS alittle while so our barrels hardly ever get warm. I actually enjoy that more than shooting matches. And I have learned a lot from my shooting pardner, he is a retired Marine Master Gunnery Seargent/armorer and at one time in his carrer was in charge of maintainence of the M40-A1's on bases where he was stationed. And he is a pretty darned good "gun plummer" as he calls it.

    Sincerely,
    Dave (Bubba) Thornblom

Again, I was surfing over on the 6mmBR website and looking at 600 yard match records. Man, you want believe these groups. In the light rifle class a 5 shot group of .960" set a new record. That was shot with a 6mmBR wilcat. In the heavy rifle class a 5 shot group of .860" set a new record. That was shot with a 6.5x.284. Wow! At 600 yards. Un believeable.

    Sincerely,
    Dave (Bubba) Thornblom

I forgot to mention that when I was at the range the other day to shoot at 600 yards, I checked my zero at 100 yards and then shot a group. .197" for 4 shots. The fifth shot I pulled and opened the group up to .625".

Dang, that is some fine shooting there pard. I'm glad to here that your 8208 load is still as good as it ever was, I think your rifle likes it allot.

Maybe it is true, the more you practice, the luckier you get. LOL
