LOL.. spose I should have seen that coming... its local lingo I spose.

Anyway, I'm wanting to a 3XX RUM rifle and was wantign to know if anyone knows whether the Long action is suitable.. I found a site that said thats what he used, but 30-06 is long and head size is 1.5mm smaller than RUM so I'm starting to think not.

It will work, but you'll have to have the bolt-face let out by a competent smith to accommodate the larger case head.

What about running 338 Lapua on long action? Too much work?

Next question for those watching... whats the lightest Tac stock available?

From what I've heard, the .338 Lapua needs let out, too, but the cartridge is too long for the magazine.

I have a Savage 110 that has a special receiver for the .300 RUM type cartridges. I believe that the front ring of the action is slightly larger than the older style 110. But it is a standard length 110 action with a longer magazine, for what that's worth.

I would prefer a 30-06 stainless action to build a 300 RUM on. We do it all the time. You square the bolt face up any way, so it is not too much extra machining to open up the diameter about .060" and install a Sako extractor.

It is no problem doing the 338 Lapua either, especially if you go with the Wyatt's detachable box mag. Just finished one on a Lawton action (Rem. 700 length) last night.

The way we set them up, they feed fine. I don't like the DBM designs that have the big long release lever sticking down. When stalking or in heavy brush they really suck.
