Looking to add a vertical grip to my shorty AR. not sure what is best. Folding, No folding, built in light, etc. What is your preference?
Tactical sling system. Same question.
My AR is a Bushmaster 16" heavy barrel flat top with an Aimpoint M3, ARMS mount, 6 position stock, DPMS BUIS, Yankee forearm, and a GemTech M4-02 suppressor. There is a Magpul trigger guard and grip on it too.
I like the folding ones. That way it can be put out of the way if need be. If you need to rest the gun on something and shoot its not sticking out making problems.
I am the same way now my first AR looked like something from a sci-fi movie with all the lights, lasers, forward grip, ect. But I found out I didnt need all that stuff so now all my ARs are pretty standard.
I like to keep my rifles as close to stock as possible. If you have to add a lot of junk to a rifle then you chose the wrong one. But it does look cool though
all i have in my leupold scope and harris bi-pod on my Varminter
my other AR's have nothing, my M4 had an aimpoint but i took it off cause i dont like them and im too lazy to take off my tactical sling the army doesnt want back
Since we're giving opions on AR15/M16/M4 agumentations... IMO, for a tactical rig really all you'd need is optics to fit your needs, good irons, a light, and a uncomplicated sling. Maybe a supressor. I'd guess some specops operators might have some use for IR designators, lasers, etc. but the average joe won't. I love a weapon with it's weight doubled by a visible laser, IR laser, IR illuminator, visible illiuminator, night scope, dayscope, forward grip, enhanced pistol grip, enhanced stock, folding front and rear irons, Redi-Mag... Oh sorry, I got distracted... Anyway, just a few basics if you don't find yourself at your best with the factory setup. Some people benefit from some add-ons, some are hindered by them.
You have to think what its purpose is for if its for home defence a light could be usefull. You can make small changes that will help a bit like a larger bolt release and a larger charging handle especially if you have optics that stick back aways.
Supressor? i mean i can see the arguement for the others but thats just no good, i mean think of what the prosocuter will say about that nasty lookign weapon then
just a thought

I am in PA so I already have a suppressor. It a GemTech M4-02. You should hear it (or not hear it) with the can on and subsonics going through it. I use the M4-02 can on the AR, 22 bolt rifle , and Sav FLP .223.
Back to the AR, I am still looking for a 2 or 3 point sling. Any suggestions? I tend to over analyze everything.
Heh, I'm the same way sometimes. I spaced in my last post and didn't really answer your question, sorry about that. Advanced Armament makes a decent foregrip. They also have a rail that attaches to the handguards. It's not as stable as say, a Yankee Hill quad-rail, but it gives you the grip. Also, the rail comes in two sizes, one just big enough for the grip or a light and one that runs the length of short handguards.
As far as a 3-point sling... The Giles is the only one I know by name but there's others that are nice too.
Thanks for the leads. I will check them out. I have a Yankee Hill 2 pc fore grip on it now. I really like the ARMS free floating SIR systems but not sure if the cost of $369 gives me any noticeable accuracy improvement. Just can't justify the $369 for it. The rifle shoots pretty good already for a 16" heavy barreled carbine.
The ARMS SIR system is excellent I used to have one on my AR. Troy makes a good quad rail that is built tough they also sell those 3 point slings you were looking for. The Troy rail is cheaper than the ARMS if your looking to save some dough.

No prob. I hear ya on the SIR, I'd love one but I can't justify the cost either. It's one of those over-the-top-but-man-I-want-it items. Probably more form than function anyway. Someone could come up with something offering the same features it has over say, the RAS, but be a lot simpler and less expensive at the same time. Nobody to my knowledge has though.
