I was just wondering what everybody's thought are on the most accurate powder for .308 with 168 sierra match king and federal gmm primers? I will be calling Mike to get a tac ops echo series started on and even though I know it will be a while before I get it I was just wondering about hand loads for it. I know he builds the rifles to shoot gmm ammo but would like to load my own to save on some cost, I like to shoot a lot.

Thanks for any help.

I use ADI's AR2208 which, I believe, is sold as "Varget" in the USA.

My most accurate load for 168 grain Sierra Match Kings is 43.5 grains of AR2208 that is giving 2600 fps from a 24" long one in twelve twist Lilja barrel ....... (for other rifles, results may vary  )

There are a lot of factors to consider when choosing a powder. Bullet weight, barrel length, desired velocity, temperature sensitivity...

Longer barrels can take advantage of slower burn rate powders, but if your barrel is short, the major share of powderwill burn outside your barrel, wasting a lot of the powder, and not gaining the desired effect. It helps to loook through all the stickies, and determine what powder is best for you.

For a short barrel like Tac-Ops rifles have, using 168 grain match bullets in an extreme climate change like northern states suffer, I'd use a medium burning powder like H4895,IMR 4064,or other similar burn rate powders. There are other capable powders out there, and picking through handloading posts will help educate you as to which powders are best for your application.
