Vortex Solo R/T 8x36 review

This is rapidly becoming one of my favorite pieces of equipment. One of the best non LRF ranging optics i've used.
Glass is very clear on it with objective focus and reticle focus. It is small and stays out of the way while beating around in the bush. Has a light shield on the eyepiece to keep glare down from the sun. Decent Lanyard (although not tactical environment friendly) with a snap on clip for quick detachment.
It is surprisingly easy to hold stable either freehand or braced up against an object. Readily handy to grab at a moments notice to get eyes on. It has 3 quick ranging silhouette outlines for quick ranging on human targets. With vortex's unconditional lifetime warranty it gets used and abused without worry.
An obj lense cap that snaps shut would be a nice accessory or addition to it.
Only negative thing i'd have to say on it is the carrying case. It provides less protection for the optic than i'd like. Belt strap is poorly secured (by a small light duty snap). I revamped my carrying case for it though with little effort.
I'd recommend this piece of gear to anyone that still practices old school ranging techniques.

This is not the first time I've heard good reports on this monocular. I rather wonder how the non-ranging versions work. I'd like to get a chance to try the 10x36 sometime.

What I've never been quite sure about is the quality. The price is so low that I just wonder.

Would you say it's a good monocular or just good for the price?

Very clear image through it. price is reasonable mainly because the magnification is only 8x fixed. Are you going to see bullet holes at 500 meters through it? no way. It does have high quality glass in it though and works great for what it was designed to do. (light weight, moderate magnification, large field of view, and range estimation)
not just good for the price.. but a good monocular in general
