    best scope for 500$

ok I have read a lot of the post by the search. I am looking for a good scope for 500$ or less to put on my new 5-R I think i will order a wotac gen 4 but any info would help. I intend for this weapon to be used for target shooting out to 1000yrds and groundhog hunting.

I know there are TUNS of posts on this, but yes. The WOTAC would be a good choice, or one of the Falcons. If you are shooting 1000 yards, I don't know that I would want the FFP falcon, but they have others.

My advice is if really can just save a little bit more get one of the Bushnell 6500 series, I have had a Falcon menace 4-14x44 FFP which I replaced with a Bushnell 4200 Tactical and the Bushy is hands down a better scope.

Your scope is your interface between you and your rifle, make sure you get something good

To compare these mid-end scopes, what was it that you didn't like about the Falcon?

I think I might have just had a bad one but the eye relief was dodgy, I couldn't get a good sight picture and the glass was about the same as a leupy VX-1 that I have

At $500 you aren't too far from the Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 Tactical model. the minimum advertised price is $750 or $800 but you can get it for well under that if you know who to ask

I haven't seen the Gen 4 WoTac of course but Matt says it'll be better than the Gen 3 and I thought the Gen 3 was excellent. It's not quite on par with the Bushy Elite 6500 but it a lot less money too. If you decide you want a Gen 4 call Matt and get on the list. They always sell out in days when they come in.

There´s talk about some Bushnell 6500 4.5-30x scopes lacking resolution at the higher ends of the magnification. I´d like to know whether this is a common feature on these scopes or is it found only in individual scopes?

Gen 4 WOTAC would probably be the best thing. Either that or the Elite 4200.
