    I Need a Leupold for a 338 Lapua?

I have a customer that just got his gun (700P) and wants a leupold for it. Here is the question: What would you put on it? He wants to shoot it as far as possible. Something around 6x24?

My suggestion would be Leupold Mark 4 8.5-25x50mm ER/T M5 Front Focal. JMO

That scope only has 70 MOA of internal adjustment. He *MIGHT* get to 2000 yds. with it.

If you want a scope that will get you "As far as possible", you're going to need *AT LEAST* 100 moa + holdover. Within his limitations I'd say 6.5-20 M5 with the Horus reticle.

Too bad he's specifying Leupold. My Vortex Razor has 37 mil (127 moa) of internal adjustment *PLUS* 10 mil holdover. On a 45 moa base, I can reach almost 2700 yds. with my 300WM (we haven't tried this yet, stay tuned. 2300 yds. is the longest to date. We have a place where we can now shoot out to 3000+).

There are so many factors in involved in shooting "as far as possible".

Far as possible is really up to the shooter. The 338 LaPua has 2 kill shots at 2700 yards. that was done with a AI and a S&B. Top notch equipment, but one of the finest shooters in the world. A 5-25X (or around that range) would work well for 100 yards out to over 1500. Realistically if your shooting 'as far as possible' you would have a + MOA base and possibly rings so you would be sighted in a lot further and not shooting below 500 yards. teh 8.5-25 mark 4 would be a great choice if you want to stick with Leupold. For that price, you can also jump into a 8-32 Nightforce. Personal preference at that point. Both would allow for the 338 LaPua to be used to its potential or shooters potential. You will then want to decide what retcile and what style of turret they need. If they want to match mil/mil or stick with a MOA click value.

The Leupold Mark IV M5 8.5-25x50 ER/T FFP will get you out to 1000 yards in two turns. We currently have them in-stock with the TMR reticle. Let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks,

"far as possible" is fun to see when you can get a good hit,but it takes soo much time to set-up targets for this trial, lol. Goodshootin'

If your going that far with a round, I'm kinda like jrob and would suggest the Vortex Razor, Nightforce, S&B, and US Optics too.
