i'm kinda suprised the marine corps went with an illuminated reticle. it is kinda frowned upon (as far as hunting goes around here) because it supposivly robs the scope picture of visible light. or so that is what i hear, i have never had any experience w/ an illuminated reticle scope. but, i guess the marine corps chose it for a paticular reason, and probably good reason.

I dont think an illuminated reticle would lower the light transmission level of a scope, but it probably makes your eye focus on the bright reticle and not adjust to the lower light level as much as possible. Im guessing if they need to shoot when its really dark they can just stick a PVS-14 on the scope or use an AN/PVS-10 Night Vision scope.

The illuminated reticle is adjustable from off up to full brightness (0 to 12), and a half click inbetween each brightness setting turns it off.

yeah, i get what your saying. of course, if i was issued a Schmidt and Bender scope, i wouldnt be complaining about it having an illuminated reticle.

We had a pretty good discussion (couple of threads actually) about the new S&B USMC scope a few weeks ago and those interested may want to search for that thread.

Thanks for the pictures, they look good. The one thing about illum reticles is that they turn off. You can turn it on only when you need it.

 (while looking at the fifth photo)

Nice thing in the background. Form the prevorious discussions on the S&B scopes I can only say that I'm impressed with the things people who have used them say about them.

That is the MGL-140 40mm Grenade Launcher (variant of the MK-1 series) manufactured by a South African company called Milkor. It is based on the MM-1 40mm Grenade Launcher manufactured by Hawk Engineering Co.

Thanks, it was too little to be a MM1 and it sure isn't a Russian 6g30.

A small correction, though; S&B uses 34mm tubes  IOR is, as far as I know, the only company using 35mm tubes. Slightly annoying as the difference is so tiny there'll be no pratical difference to the user - other than having the get the correct rings...

USO currently builds 30, 34, and 35mm tubes and has in the past also built 40mm tubes, although the latter has been supplanted by the SN-9 external adjustment scope.
