The Pentax Game Seeker in 3-9x40 is around $100, and I've had good luck with it.The also have a 3-9x50 for $120.I've heard of people having good luck with a Tasco or Simmons or Barska, but I always seem to get the crap scopes from them.

The Nikon Buckmasters are pretty good scopes at a reasonable price.

A price range would help to better advise on what scopes are best for what you want to spend.

good variable scope for 8mm mauser?

On a fixed income, so less than a couple hundred would be best. I'd love to get a Zeiss, but.....

A Bushnell Elite 3200 10x Tactical is arguably the best you can get under a $200 ceiling, at least in my opinion. They generally run around $175.00.If you want variable, I'd go with the Pentax Gameseeker or Nikon Buckmaster.

    scope for 8mm

Well to kinda be different I have a M24/47 Mauser with a Tasco 3X9-40 World class with mil dot reticle and have not had a problem with it , it has also been on several .308s and as yet no problem ,I also have another one same thing no problems, I also have several simmons 44 mags ie 3x10-44 with and without mil dots and they are all good are they the best/ probably not but they do work and are inexpensive just dont have the dollars to buy the more expensive scopes and my thoughts are I can shoot now with the cheaper scopes compared to saving for several months to buy more expensive glass, I have used the tasco/mauser for hog hunting at night ans three hogs in 20 secs and being a lefty I'd say it works okay. but just my thoughts and experiences over 40 plus yrs of shooting
