    New Rifle Break In

I purchased a new Remington 700 .308 rifle. I was wondering if there is any break in I need to do with the barral before I zero the scope? What would also be a good range to zero the scope at? Thank you.

This is what I do (sometimes I do shorten it). http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/p...barrelbreakin/

As for zero, it depends on how far you want to shoot. Looke at some .308 ballistics, 100yds is probably standard.

Break-in is a myth. The procedure is simple. Shoot rifle and when accuracy starts to fall off clean it. As for zero range that is a personal thing. Personally I keep everything but my 338 zeroed at 100 yards.

Some people think break in may be more important in factory barrels over match barrels. This is because the factory barrels are more likely to have imperfections such as burrs that can be smoothed down with the break in process.

Having said that, I don't believe in it. At best you are just wasting ammo. At worst, if you have a hot caliber with short barrel life, you will use it up that much sooner.

Plus, I believe mike at tacops doesn't believe in break in, so that should say something.

Before we jump to any conclusions, read what Krieger had to say about it. I am sure McMillan knows what it is but so does the Krieger, eh?
