    howa 1500 22-250?

i have a chance to pick up a nice howa 1500 axiom
    it is in 22-250
    it has a heavy barrel
i dont know much abt this brand of gun
    anyone know anything abt em??
    good? bad ?? ugly??
i do know the 22-250 is an accurate gun but most if not all rifles for them are 1:14 twist and it will only handle the 55 grain stuff? right?
and that barrel life is suppost to be shorter than say 308 or even 223
how many rounds can i expect out of it before i notice accuracy loss due to barrel wear?
where could i pick up a different type of stock without it costing an arm and leg??
where could i get a new barrel in say 308 or 223 for it after i shot out the 22-250 if that happened?
and answer any other questions i dont know need asking
seriously any help on this would be appreciated
    thanks
    sureshot

Lots of information on Howa's on the internet.
    They are quite nice guns.
You would have to either check the gun or the makers web page for stats. slow twists should still get you out to 450mtrs or so if you do your bit.
I would hope you get 2500 shots or more but it depends on a few things.
That's still a lot of rounds.
Barrels can be fitted by any gunsmith happy to work on them.

The real question is what do you want to do with it?
    Why do you want it?
It's a small game rifle. If you want to do something else with it then it's probably not the right gun.

If you can get it for a 1/3 that price I wouldnt pass it up. I have a Howa Varminter .308 and love my Howa, no complaint. I did pick up the Axciom that Howa makes and didnt like the stock at all, to light, just hard plastic feeling. Suppose to have no recoil on those axciom stocks. but again, for a 1/3 the price, I would hop all over it, but thats easy for another person to say.

Howa's quality is great for an out of the box rifle. I have not heard anyone complain about them from this site. Do not hesitate to get one. I have two of these and the quality seems to be way better than a Remington or savage upon initial inspection.

On the axiom stock... Well, they claim that it reduces most felt recoil significantly but it does not seem so ON A 308. On your caliber, it might actually help out because the 308 has barely any kick compared to a large caliber anyway. If you can get it cheap, do it and buy a different stock later on if it does not fit you well. The only thing I was not too fond of my axiom was the flex on the front of the stock under load from a bipod. It's negligible and does not hurt accuracy but irritating.

    Howa 1500 varmint

Never used a axiom stock. I do However own two howa 1500 heavy barreled rifles. Howa's are cheap to buy and shoot strait. put a barreled action in a quality stock and you have a sub moa rifle for not a lot of coin.

Make sure you know for sure what the rifling rate on that Howa is. If it isn't 1 in 9 or faster, pass on it unless you are happy to never shoot past 300 yards with it.

    1/9 is the bare minimum to shoot heavy .224 bullets (69 - 80 grains) in a 22-250.
