Well after debating on building another long range gun and steppin up from my rem. 700p .338LM, I believe im gonna try out a .416 Barrett or a
.408 Cheytac. More than likely the .416 Barrett. Seems ammo is easier to come by. If I dont have any luck finding a setup I like then I will either build my 700 further(lookin for a stock/chassis system) or sell it and build a different .338LM. I have always wanted a Barrett 98B but I havent seen to many reviews on it.
As far as the .416 and .408, who is chambering these rounds besides the barrett and cheytac companies?
Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Yeah I seen it for sale last night. I just dont know.how readily available it will continue to be. The only the pushin me away from the .408 is the price of the gun is so much higher than the .416

Either cartridge is going to get the job done VERY well.

Cheytac sells their Intervention rifle in .408 as a kit. It is not just the rifle. It also includes the range finder, weather station, scope, etc. Even though it is more expensive, you will get more for your money. Just my 2 cents.
As Unrealsm wrote, the Intervention comes as a package:
NF 5.5-22x56mm scope
Vectronix rangefinder, not cheap
Kestrel 6500 windmeter i think
PDA with ballistic software
bipod, case etc..
You can just buy the rifle for a whole lot cheaper. Or build one that's chambered for a .408

Desert Tactical makes a system that allows you (through the purchase of conversion kits) switch between .375, .408, .416, and .50. It is called the DTA HTI (Hard Taget Interdiction). I have no experience with them, but I am looking myself.
What makes it different is the bullpup design, which will change the overall length and balance of the system.
I would love to hear if anyone has had any experience with them.
