Safety on Remington 700 - malfunction?

    Hi!

I noticed on my Rem 700 that if I pull the trigger with the safety on, when I switch the safety off, the rifle goes off sometimes . I guess this isn't normal, is it?

Did anyone have the same kind of problems on a Rem 700?

I seem to recall hearing about this on some older rifles.

Sounds like the trigger has been dicked with. Call a smith.

I would just put a timney or jewell on it. Forget about the original unless remington will fix it under the recall.

+1 on this. It is not worth the time/money to mess with it IMHO. Just upgrade it to a jewel trigger and you won't be disappointed.

Thanks. I will upgrade if I have a chance. In the mean time, I am only worried about this when I give a complimentary shot to someone. As for myself, I usually pay attention to safety.

If that is the case I would contact Remington about it. Your rifle could be involved with their recall. And if that is true, then they will fix it for you. But that will require you to send it back to them for repair :? .

Or like I said before, you can just upgrade it and not have to think about it ever again  .

Sending the rifle to them is not an option. Upgrade - may be. Thanks!

Seriously, the trigger you have on your new rifle is their 'X-Mark' and it should be adjustable. I'd bump it up a bit, sounds like it's too light for the design. But as several have pointed out, you'd be better off just installing a new trigger anyway. For your knowledge bank.
Mine is exactly 2 years ago. I am not sure the trigger is X-Mark, but it is adjustable, yes. I will try to play with its weight, or... there may be an oil/grease issue in the trigger - when pulled while on safety it seems to get stuck a bit in the backward position. It is almost imperceptible but feels like it. Getting a new trigger is a hit, as I can see.
    And thanks for the link!
