    .308 vs 300 wsm

I have three .308's and am thinking about a 300 wsm. I talked with someone at TacPro and they said light bullets shot fine but they were having trouble getting consistent groups with hevier grain bullets and it wouldn't be their choice for a long range round. Anyone have experience with this round?

Definetly more expensive to shoot than the .308.

I heard something similar, maybe this is said for the same reason that a .308 is more accurate than a 30-06.

I've own several .308s a ,.300 WSM ,a .300 Win Mag,and a .300 RUM. As far as accuracy goes, there isn't a lot of difference as far as I can tell.If you own a magnum rifle, the cost of ammo will eventuall lead you to reload for them. The .300 WSM reloads a bit nicer than the .300 Win Mag, due to the Win Mag's belt, and about the same as the .300RUM.The .300 WSM puts .300H&H power in a short action. The WSM shines with the lighter bullets, up to 180 grains. THE .300 WIN mag is better with heavier weights,180 to 210g and the .300 RUM is great with 200 grain on up, although I load mine with 180s currently. If you are thinking about turning one of your .308s into a WSM, then it and the Rem .300 SAUM are your choices. If you are planning on a new rifle, I'd get the .300 Win Mag for overall usefulness and ammo cost, and ammo cases are plentiful if you reload. All of them will have substantial recoil increase, although the WSM, SAUM, H&H, Weatherby and Win Mag aren't a lot more than a .30-06.

I have a fn spr in 300wsm my rifle shoots the 190 bergers at 3000 fps and I have gotten the (210 bergers to 2930 slight signs of pressure). With the 190's it easily shoots under .5.. If it doesnt shoot the heavier pills well thats news to me!! The only problem I have when I shoot this rifle compared to my .308 is the fatigue I get shooting the 300wsm. I can shoot the .308 all day no problem while the .300wsm I can only shoot about 40 - 50 rounds before my groups start to open up. I do not have a muzzle brake on either of them so with a brake I am sure I could shoot the .300 all day too. The best groups I have shot long range have been shot with the .300wsm..

It's not that the WSM won't shoot well with bullets up to 250 grain, it's what the larger .300 will do it easier. As far as that goes, the .300SAUM is a good cartridge, but I don't own one, so I didn't include it in the comparison. You could shoot 190s or 200s out of a .308. The .300.Win Mag and RUM have more boiler room, and do it with more velocity/energy. I was just giving the pros and cons.I have a .300 WSM, A .300 RUM, and had a .300 WIN Mag for comparison, and gave the good/ bad points of them.

What FN SPR do you have and have you had any trouble with squareness of the bolt? My A5 is fine but my A2 lugs didn't even make contact on one side, easy fix though.
    Thanks guys.
