Mounting 2 piece Nightforce base and Nightforce Rings . . .

    Hi Guys,

I've done alot of reading on this board, but not alot of posting. I'm just getting into precision/tactical bolt actions, but have been an AR guy for quite some time. I've done alot of reading on how to mount and level base and rings using a single piece base. I've read about lapping rings and bedding bases etc. Now for my question:

I have a 2-piece Nightforce 20MOA base and a set of Nightforce 30mm kow rings inbound. I just bought a Leupold Mark 4 lr/t 2.4x14x40mm mildot scope as well. These items will be going on top of my new Savage .308. Whats the straight poop on making this good to go?

Nightforce says that I dont need to lap the rings. They also said that I shouldn't have to bed the bases (2 piece)

How to I insure that the bases are aligned properly and that the scope is seated and leveled properly?

If I can do it right without buying all kinds of other tools and items that would be great. Christmas, wife, kid, new rifle, new scope, rings, base-- I'd prefer not to spend money if it was needed.

    Thanks in advance

Just screw it all together - done. (honestly)

The most you would want to do is loktite the screws to the action. (base screws)

The scope will take care of adjustments needed for leveling purposes.

    Really?

So you dont think I need to mess with using feller guages or levels or anything on the scope or base? No need to bed anything?

Ok-- Looking for some more input on the subject.

Just use a small level to make sure the rifle is level while you are mounting and them to make sure the scope is level. If NF made the rings and they say not to lap them, don't lap them, it may void a warrantee or something.

After you have it all mounted up and boresighted take it out and shoot it, if it's shooting sub-moa then you have no need to worry about anything else.

    Great answer . . .

    Thanks . . .

I suppose if I were shooting national competitions at 1000+ yards I might break out the micrometers.
