    Anyone shooting the 338 Federal?

Seems like a nice round, just a necked up 308. Not for long range but great hunting round I bet. If anyone has any experience with this cartridge please chime in. I think I may have to get a bbl for this and try it out.
    Wishing I could shoot more!

have a DPMS AR-10 with .243, 308 and .338 federal Barrels. My favorite to shoot out to 400 yards is the .338 Federal. Won't do the accuracy at 600 yards like the .243 or the 800 yards of the .308 but is a fun gun to shoot. Typical groups at 200 yards are about 1.5 inches. Brass is tough to find but the bullet selection is good and the knockdown power is very good. Read this short article that compares it to some more popular rounds like the 30-06 etc.

No, I do not own a rifle chambered in .338-08/.338 Federal. That said, it's only because I can't hunt with it.

As a .338 cartridge for LR use and matches, it is pretty anemic on powder capacity for the large bullets. It would cruise, sure, but the loss of speed would be critical at long range compared to the same casing with a high-BC 6 or 6.5mm bullet.

Barrel life will be spectacular. I'd bet it will go at least 7,500 rounds on a halfway decent barrel before it really begins to open up, unless a guy is trying to make it a Lapua.

As a hunting cartridge, it's one of the only GOOD ways to get over 3,000 pounds of energy from the true short-action 51mm casing. I think it would make a spectacular hammer in the deer, elk, etc. woods.
