Hearing protection

This is a discussion on Hearing protection within the Misc. forums, part of the Sniping Related category; I'm looking around for some better ear protection. Pro Ears looks pretty good, anyone have any experience with their products? Any other reccomendations? Thank you!...

I have a pair of Pro Ears Gold Predator Gold NRR 26 Electronic Ear Muffs that I purchased from DVOR approx. 18 months ago that I am very pleased with. I will add that I supplement them with foam ear plugs while shooting at the range.

Do they amplify ambient enough to hear speech with earplugs in?

Only marginally well (with the volume all the way up on the Pro Ears). My approach is to maximize my hearing protection though.

I have been using the Howard Leights for a few years and I wear plugs under them and can hear pretty good with them all the way up. I bought a two pack and have one in my pistol comp bag and one in my rifle gear.

I'm also using the Howard Leights, but without the additional plugs. Although, I almost never have another shooter within 15 - 20 feet of me.

I use the Howard Leights as well and I use some plugs that were molded to my ears under them. With the volume all the way up I can hear people talking but it blocks out so much firearm noise that I don't blink when I break the shot. Was really helpful in USPSA to blink when you wanted and not every time you pulled the trigger.
