And now, in an amazing feat of thread necromancy........

I'm not a competitive shooter, but my son and I are beginning to push ourselves a little bit at medium to longer ranges. So far, I've shot successfully to just 800 yards at my range, but my next goal is to get to the 1,000 yard targets. At 800 yards, I had an instructor calling the shots for me using a very high end (and according to him, very expensive) Leupold spotting scope with a milling reticle somewhat resembling the Horus H59. There's no way on earth I can afford the better than $4,000 price my instructor told me it cost, but I would like to know if there exists a spotting scope in the $1,200.00 to $1,500.00 range mentioned in this thread that has some kind of milling reticle. It doesn't have to have King Kong magnification......something in the 25x to 40x would be more than adequate.....but the reticle is important to me because we enjoy working together, and so far we are both restricted to the maximum magnification in our scopes, which for mine is 20x, and for his is 25x. I am an aging fart with the Mark 63 eyeballs and aftermarket cataracts, and the worse it gets, the more I find it difficult to use my scope's reticle (a SWFA SS 5-20x50HD) to call someone else's shots at more than 300-400 yards.

I already own one of those Vortex Recon R/T 15x50 monoculars, and it is fine for closer in, but just doesn't have enough magnification for my eyes further out.

If there are any affordable suggestions that have such a reticle, I'd appreciate hearing them.

I went with a camera system as opposed to a spotting scope. As long as you can walk to your target first it will work just fine and is much cheaper than even a mediocre spotting scope.
