Vortex Viper PST Gen 2 or Razor Gen 1?

I know the new Viper PST Gen 2 scopes are just making it out to people but does anyone know how it compares to the Razor Gen 1 in terms of glass quality? Is it worth the extra money to go with the Gen I razor?

    Thanks!

Based on specs from their site, the Gen 1 Razor still has better glass. 35mm tube vs. 30mm tube will allow more adjustment.

The Razor is heavier though. The Gen 2 PST has 5x zoom, the Razor is 4x.

I plan on keeping my Razor, but am definitely looking at getting one of the PST Gen 2's for another rifle.

I heard some rumors that the new Gen II PST is built with the Gen I Razor glass. This is a parroted rumor; I would ask Vortex about it.

Ok Answer just in from Vortex, ya gotta love their customer support!!

The PST Gen II is about 80% the exact same scope as the razor Gen I. The glass on the razor Gen I is superior.

Yup was coming to post almost the same thing. They are two completely different optical designs. There may be some similar glass used but with 12-15 lenses used, generally, there are differences.

The Gen II PST is a big step over the original PST but the overall design of the Razor gives it a little better clarity.

    Guys,

Thanks for the info, it's greatly appreciated! I went ahead and went with the PST Gen II. I am happy with the PST Gen I on my Creedmoor and if the Gen II is a step up I'm good with that and think its a good scope for the price.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the gen II. I currently have a gen I and overall im happy with it but at low light it could be a little better I think.

Ive decided to give the razor gen I a try, id love a razor gen II but my budget just wont allow it

Update. The PST Gen II went from a 10 day availability to 2-4 months... I switched my order up and went with a Burris XTR II 4-20x50 with H59 reticle. I like the scope a lot! 34mm tube and pretty good glass from what I can tell so far. I look forward to comparing it side by side to the PST II when I get a chance.
