Both my brother in law and I had prostaff scopes. They both quit holding zero at different times. I gave up on Nikon after that.

An old guy once told me to spend twice as much on the scope as I did for the rifle. I know that sounds steep but a fair compromise is to spend about as much on the scope as you did on the rifle. This is a most painful acquisition at a most critical time. Yes, you bought a rifle that can consistently hit a 6 inch round piece of steel at 300 yards. I'm being conservative so someone else can jump in and say they can consistently hit a 3 inch round with iron sights at 600 yards (Tikka for Tikka). The point is you don't want to blame yourself or the rifle for a scope that can't hold zero at 100 yards for 100 days and 1000 rounds. The Prostaff was the first scope I ever bought. It was not a "good" scope. It was an OK scope for a short while.

X2 on spending on optics. A good scope will allow you to get the most out of a factory rifle. A bad scope won't let you get anything out a top of the line $4k custom rifle. If the scope won't hold zero, what's the point.

With the Athlon I mentioned and as shown in pic, it has held zero for over 5000 rounds. I routinely shoot out to and past 200 yards and am cranking in dope for 22lr. Upto about 50 moa worth. It tracks perfectly and always returns to zero. It is parallax adjustable from 10 yards to infinity with the side focus. It also has a glass etched illuminated reticle.
The glass I put on par with or better than my Leupold VX3s or similar. Very bright and clear with little to no pin cushion effect. You will be hard pressed to find a better scope for less than double the price and I have or have had the scopes in that price range.

    Good luck with your search....

    Bret

PS- I am in no way affiliated with Athlon. Just an average working stiff that knows a great deal when he lucks up and finds one.
