Yea if you search specials or the classifieds you are right. Now is probably a good time maybe a RPR will pop up in 6.5 around here for me
Yep, I would have bought one years ago if I didn't already have a 700 PSS.
OP, I just read Mel's weekly update for 11/20/15, and he had a Remington 700 build that a customer backed out on. So, it's built and ready to ship. Details are here:
Friday Update - 20 Nov 2015 - Sniper Central
As of right now I think the rpr is the best option for the money. I can find a good used one for 1000 and have 500 to 600 to spend on a decent scope and rings and then have one hell of deer rifle and occasionally a good target gun that will outshoot most the people around me that are at the range. Just need to work on my shooting more
And also need to get into reloading
Yes I called a local gun shop that carries lots of guns similar and they said they are hard to come by now. I have found a few or armslist but would have to travel a little ways to get it
I just want to inject something here.
A used remington 700 short action rifle in 308 or 243win can be found used in most gun shops for $350-550 depending on condition. For another $500'ish, you can stick that thing in a chassis system with DBM. Throw $150 at a timney 510 or 517 trigger. So there you sit with a remington for the same price as people are paying for these ruger precision rifles. One of them has a HUGE upgrade path, and can be turned into anything a shooter would ever desire. The other is a cheap rifle, trying to wear expensive rifle pants, and has a very limited upgrade path.
Throw another $750 toward TS Customs, and that remington turns into a cartridge of your choice which is able to smack a dime on command at 100yds.
Just adding a little perspective here. Sure, the rpr is turnkey. ... yet from what I've read on various forums, it sure isn't without risk.
