Magnum primers for compressed 308 loads ?

Last weekend, I tried another shooters hand loads in my rifle and shot the best group I have ever achieved at 700m.
When I asked for his recipe, I was shocked at how hot it was.
    Lapua brass with...

Barnes 30cal 180gr TTSX are awesome.

I recently loaded these pills over 44gr of Varget (AR2208) to use in my Tikka 308.
Yes. I know they're an expensive hunting bullet, but I can now see why.
Those things ARE match grade and the knock...

I recently bought a Monarch SF 4-16x42 with mil dot from Blue Bazooka.
You can't buy them here in Oz, so I had to order it from over there.
Because our dollar has since gone to the toilet, I've...

Thanks Pinarelloman, but I've already got Graham's (The Gunsmiths @ Sefton) details.
He's a good bloke and knows his stuff too.

If you haven't tried the factory Winchester NRAA Palma cartridges...

I love the idea of the .204 but a .223 is cheaper & more versatile.

If you have a fast twist rate on a 223 (say 1:9 or even better 1:7) you can use projectiles weighing from 40grains to 80grains.
  6. For Aussies only - cheaper 308 ammo & components

    Hi guys.

I'm not sure who and who isn't aware of this, or if it's well known to you all, but I'll say my bit anyway.

If you are located anywhere near a range that has PALMA shooters at it on a...

What about Winchester WLRM Primers ?

I wouldn't have thought you'd need mag primers for the 34-36grains of ADI AR2208 behind a 150grain pill.
IMO the mag primers would be better served behind the...

    Congratualtions Danny.
    That's a stunning rifle mate.

Is there a load of BS & $'s to get one of those into Oz?
    Or
Is the wait the hardest part?

Sincerely happy for you, yet

    Thanks for that.

The first barrel break in I have ever done was last Sunday and from the replies I have just read, that was my last.

If Tac Ops Mike says don't bother, than I'm saving my elbow...

    Thanks, LongRifles

How do I like my Barnard? I love my Barnard.
It would have to be the most popular Palma and F Class action in Australia.
Although most people here use the P model, but I got...

I've never loaded for the 7x57, but from what I've read, Id try about 47.3grains of ADI AR2213SC and maybe a magnum primer.

If you do use what you have at home (2208)

    Start: 34grains & Max:...
  12. Do you break in rifles that come with an accuracy garauntee?

e.g; Tikka claims that no rifle will leave the factory without shooting less than a 1 MOA group at 100yards.

Does that mean they break the barrel in first?
Does that mean they shoot them without...

    I hope it's a positive review.

I ordered one of those last week.
I have to wait for it to come from the US then wait for Australian Customs to put their grubby liitle hands all over it.

I helped a friend break in and zero his new XCR Compact on Sunday.

Apart from the trigger being set a bit heavy "which is easily fixed" it was very impressive.

The rifle was holding good groups...

    Questions regarding .308 Nosler Brass?

I recently purchased 100 Nosler cases for my competition ammo.
I've never used it before, but liked the idea that they were all weight sorted to within 0.5grain "saves me doing it"

    Has anyone...

    I agree.

I would shoot and reload that brass until your shortest case grows past 2.005" (or your longest case reaches 2.015") then trim them all back to 2.005"

    Thank you.
  20. Please help me, help a mate possibly going to Afganistan.

A friend at the rifle club asked me for some optics advice, which I think is a better question for you US military and LE guys on this site.

"I've been looking for one of those"

    No I haven't Ogre.

I almost bought a pack, but was a bit hesitant because I thought a 1:12 twist might overstabilise them.
I suppose too much twist is better than too little.
    Have you tried...

    Cheers guys.

    Wello.
Roos were the game I had in mind.
It would be a shame to waste 150 grainers on hopping mice.

I can't imagine there would be much left of the poor buggers after a head shot...
