You regulars know I am new. I am an old hunter, handloader who has always been facinated with accuracy and longrange marksmanship. I feel like I have discovered a gold mine in this forum. I have been reading your articles and have been facinated with discussions of 30 cal. magnums, and 308's for 1000yd shooting. I have been amazed at what I have learned about the 6.5 cartridges for 1000yd shooting. Can anybody tell me what calibers have won the 1000yd matches either benchrest or high power during the last five years. I would be interested in knowing what calibers, bullets, powders, barrels, twist rates, etc. have been used to win the titles for the last five to ten years? Can anybody help me?

Tubbs won Camp Perry at least 5 times using a variety of cartridges, including last year when he used the newly developed 6CX. Before that I recall he used the 6BRX, and something in 30 cal.

The biggest 1,000 yard F-Class open category cahmbering is 6.5x284 (by a huge margin)

In Bench rest the most recent 1,000 yard winner that I can recall (other than 6.5x284) was the 6BR Dasher.

You can play in .308 for F-Class because they have a F-Class TR (Tactical rifle or target rifle depending upon who you talk to) category dedicated to rifle of 16.00 lbs or less (including scope and bipod) and only in .308 or .223

Thanks for your response jeffvn. Please pardon my ignorance on the subject. But could you describe some the cartridges you mentioned. I understand that the 6.5/284 is wildcat necking down the 284 winchester case to the 6.5mm bullet. Is a 6 cx a 6mm? What kind of case? same question for the 6 brx and the 6br dasher? Is there a web site for 1000yd or other long range shooting sports? Again thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions.

No problem. Most, if not all, of your 6BR questions can be asnwered by going to this site.

http://www.6mmbr.com/index.html

For dedicated and serious Long range target work go to this site:

http://www.long-range.com/forums/index.php?

For additinoal long range work - but from a tactical perspective go here - the reloading insight is well worth the effort of reading the older threads. It is worth your time to register and participate in teh forum, don't just lurk. IF you have some questions that have not been previously asked 100 times don't be shy.

http://www.snipershide.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi

I go to and through the last two sites at least twice a day, looking for new posts.
