I was wondering if any of you guys have played around with this cartridge I just finished building one and have only had it out to our 1000yrd range but I hope to have it out to 1500yds this weekend. The action is a sako L61R I trued, the barrel is a bead blasted SS Krieger BR taper, Timney trigger and pillar bedded in a A-5 stock. I cut the chamber With a standard neck and 0 excess head space. The load I am using is a 200gr Sierra MK, Federal Gold Match mag primer and charged with 83gr of H-4831SC powder, in a Rem case. MV is 3050fps. So far accuracy is great .375 MOA @ 200yds off bags I have not shot for group any farther just 12x12 plates to 800yds. The round still pierces .375 grade50 plate @ 600yds.

yea ive shot one of those "mini cannons" i was a range that only went up to 300 and they have a metal "tooth" up there to shoot at and a friend of mine had just got it and broke in the barrel spent more on the scope than he did the gun. he let me take a few shots at the tooth and was nice. some people dont like the recoil of those 200 grain match bullets we were shooting but i didnt mind it(these were also custom hand loads we were shooting)

first weapon i fired.. fired again today.. first time in 4 years :)
its an awesome weapon, at 1500y.. this can go 1500y + some... about a mile or more :) is as good as you can get without going to .338 Lapua
the damn thing is more of a battle ship main gun not a mini cannon heh
im not a lightweight at 6'4 225 lbs so i can take it without a muzzle brake but this is one sweet long ranged cartridge

I'm just revisiting this old post.

AZcoyote, have you found anything new and exciting in your RUM yet? I just finished last night building up a full range of IMR4350 with 180 grain balistic tips and a full range of h4831sc with Sierra game King 200 grain. Now I have to wait for a good day to get to the range to try them. Any advice on possible loads to try other than what I am trying now? I am looking mainly for a very accurate hunting round right and work toward a target round later. Thanks in advance.

Bobby - dude you've got to get your chrony out of the closet. The basic theory is that once you establish a good muzzel velocity, (meaning a solid group and accuracy at a certain muzzel velocity) any bullet traveling approximately the same speed will give you the same accuracy - its a question of barrel harmonics like with a tuning fork.
