SAUM is more popular with semi-autos, i hear that its because of its shape it allows better feeding but there are semi-autos that use the WSM and i never herd of any feeding problems with them

in my opinion they are the same thing for the same purpose and as far as performance goes the WSM has the edge of about 10 fps and a litlte more case capacity and id worry more weather i wanted a Remington 700 or Win 70

I am also trying to decide which was to go with a barrel... Anyone notice a difference in ammo prices or anything else to consider?

I know here in Australia the SAUM is already dead in the water. The WSM has been out selling it 20:1.
In terms of ballistics the WSM can almost generate 100fps better velocity than the SAUM due to the fact that the WSM is a fer tenths of and inch longer and can hold more powder. Which looks good on paper but I belive its splitting hairs in terms of external ballistics.
I would love to make a custom rifle on the SAUM as i belive it is a more efficient cartridge and so ive heard the brass is of better construction (again splitting hairs). :roll: Also with the Rem M700 being as popular as it is will make it difficult for the longer WSM to be used in the M700 action, due to magizine length, seating depth etc.

If anyones spending lots of money on a WSM rifle, at least in theory you should get better accuracy than a 300 mag, since it doesn't headspace on the belt, shorter powder column, all the things they tout it for. Winchester makes me laugh trying to brag about those things in a sporter rifle lol. "benchrest accuracy".....
Personally my fav of the WSMs is the new 325 WSM, that one has potential...Now watch Mad tell me that there was a round invented 60 years ago that could do all the same things and I had no idea lol

300 wsm vs 300 saum
I just checked Remington's web page to look at model changes for this year and they have droped the 300 saum from their sporting rifles and are instead offering the 300 wsm! The 300 saum may be available in some of their custom options, but they have droped it from their main line up. I guess the 300 wsm wins!
