This is thread for .308 recipes only. This is a spin off of the .308 Shooters Only thread. In this thread I would like nothing but .308 load information as well as your rifle specs. I want to start a nice detailed listing of loads for everyone to have access to and a place to help others develop there own loads.

This thread is for nothing but .308 reloading. Let's keep it on track and not get side tracked.

I APOLOGIZE FOR DELETING ALL OF THE PREVIOUS LOADS i ADDED FROM A DIFFERENT THREAD BUT IN AN EFFORT TO NOT CAUSE ANY PROBLEMS i DELETED THEM AS AS i WAS ASKED.

All Winchester brass. Reduce by .4 grains if using Lake City, or Federal brass. Reduce by .3 grains if using Lapua brass.

155 grain Sierra Matchking (or any comparable 155 grain match bullet)
45.6 grains of IMR 4895
or
46.5 grains of Varget, IMR 4064, or W748
there is a high node with Varget at about 47.8 grains (Nosler's max is 48 grains).

168 grain Sierra Matchking (or any comparable 168 grain match bullet)
43.6 grains of IMR 4895 (my all time favorite accuracy load)
or
44.5 grains of Varget or IMR 4064 or W748
there is a high node with Varget at or near 46 grains, Hodgdon's max...
or
39.0 grains of IMR 3031 (slower, but very accurate to 300 yards, a great close range tactical load).

175 Sierra Matchking
43.5 Varget, or 45.0 Varget (high node, be careful).
or
42.4 grains IMR 4895
or
43.4 grains of IMR 4064 (high node)
42.2 grains of IMR 4064 (low node)
or
43.5 grains of RL15

With 178 AMAX (Hornady)
42.0 grains IMR 4895
or
43.1 grains of Varget
or
43.0 grains of IMR 4064 (high node)
41.8 grians of IMR 4064 (low node)
or
43.1 grains of RL15

190 grain Sierra Matchking
40.9 grains of IMR 4064

200 grain Sierra Matchking
40.2 grains of IMR 4064

These load recipes are approximate (but very close) to where the accuracy nodes are. Work up from a grain or two below, to be safe.

My "Go To Loads for my Remington 5-R Milspec.

175 gr Nosler Custom Comp
Lapua Brass
CCI BR-2 Primer
43.5 gr Varget
2.800" OAL

I also use the same components with a Hornady 178gr A-Max which performs pretty much the same. I use this when I want an expanding bullet.

Second load for this rifle

168 gr Nosler Custom Comp
Winchester Brass
Wolf or Tula Large Rifle Primer
44.5 gr Varget
2.800" OAL

Again, I sub the 168 gr Hornady A-Max when I want an expanding bullet with almost identical performance.

savage 110 with benchmark 24" 1/10 twist.

go to load is:
190 SMK
lapua brass
cci 200
43gr IMR 4064
oal 2.93

this chamber is set up for the heavies (so work your way up) and does a great jod out to 1400 yard with the 190 smk, the 208gr A-max also amazing in this gun, but impossible to find right now.

I will be playing around with CFE 223 loads after I salvage the brass from my 6.5 Grendel factory ammo.

I know CFE 223 is money in .223/5.56. I have read and heard that CFE 223 is money in .308 Win. It is widely accepted that CFE 223 is a great powder for the Grendel.

With all of this, hopefully I can develop 1/2 moa loads with each cartridge and then I can be a 1 powder kind of guy.

With that said, I won't begin load dev with CFE for .308 until I burn through the rest of my 6# of Varget.

I've already passed the 1/2 MOA stage in my CFE Load Development. Stalled out just above 1/4 MOA at .3 MOA

I still have some OAL testing to do and I may put in a longer internal magazine box if I exceed the working mag length.

What's really sweet about the CFE223, in my mind, is that it's true what they say, NO COPPER FOULING. One wet patch and soak, One patch to push out the "mud" and one more wet patch for good measure. From there all patches are clean.

As for it being a "ball powder"? Not an issue here. Since it's double based it lights off with no problems and measures like water in my Dillon Pouder measure on the 650. Nice to be able to load 100 rounds in 15 minutes then spend the rest of the time actually shooting.

With the standard caution of how one rifle may not be the same as another, I have used 44.4 grains of Varget with great success using that bullet.

Powders that work well with that bullet are IMR 4064, RL-15, H4895, Varget, and what I'm using now, the Hodgdon CFE223 (46 gr with 168 gr BTHP's or the more politically correct Open Tip Match aka OTM). Now good luck finding one of them :p

Aim for 2700 fps of muzzle velocity and you should get a well performing round.

Rem 700 26" Heavy Barrel 1:12 twist.

Remington Brass
Winchester Primers
165 Sierra Game King SBT
43g of Varget

I'm really surprised how it fell right into the typical spot for a .308 load. I'm going to play with the seat depth and maybe pick up some 168 SMK test. But right now I wanted one load that I can plink with and take hunting on deer, pigs, or coyotes.

These are my first reloads for the 308 using IMR-4064. These rounds were build with a new Whidden FL bushing sizer die and a RCBS .336 neck bushing.

3 rounds each starting 41.5, 41.75, 42.0 42.3, 42.6, 42.9, 43.2, 43.5. OAL 2.860, these reloads cycled through the 5 round AICS mag, with room to spare.

FGMM brass
Winchester LRP
175 SMK
IMR-4046 powder, right now I think the 42.6g load may be the one to develop

Comments??

Rem 700 varmint
26" factory 1 in 12 twist
B&C medalist
Vortex viper 6.5 - 20 x 50 mil dot
EGW 30 MOA rail
Warne QD rings

Avg - 2640 at 600 ASL 75 degrees
Holds in the two's and three's when I do my part.
Best repeated group - 0.250 MOA @ 100 (8 so far)
Shoots good for a factory action and trigger.

Holds sub .5 MOA with 168 SMK over 41.5 Varget at about 2650.
All loads are full prep Lapua brass and 210m primers.

Looking forward to pushing this out to 1k. I will need more juice but then that's the fun
