While wandering through another forum I came across a discussion of a 50 caliber 1911, that is the same size as a standard 1911. It shoots a 300 grain slug at 900 fps.

Here is their website:

Take a look. Since it is NOT compensated, this guy will kick a bit - yeah like a friggin mule!!! hmmmmmmmmm me thinks my home defense network might need an upgrade.

That's just mean!

And most certainly something I'll never play with.
re

Which .50 round does it fire? AE?
Ihave no idea - according to their they sell factory loaded rounds (two speeds one 700-750 fps and one 850-900 fps), as well as their own reloading dies to make your own.
now thats a mean lookin 1911
i want one
too expensive... good $500 more than the H&K Mk23 that i want
It's not AE...the case isn't rimmed - and not nearly long enough to be an AE. But it's still too big for my liking. And so's the pricetag. And that's a good 900 bucks more than I paied for my Mk23. Nah, I'd rather have an original 1911..for nostalgia.
the AE case dosnt have a rim

(MEL i knew this site would come in handy :) )

but i got no clue what it is either...

It is not .50AE, you can read about it in Handgunner. The company, Gun Crafters unlimited created a whole new cartridge for thier very first gun. They also teamed up with hornady to get dies made as well.

It isn't supposed to be that bad to shoot, if your used to shooting. Besides, the first shot is the one that counts, not the 7th.

Edit: The round is called the .50 G.I.
Whats the difference between an AE bullet and any other bullet?

AE is a designer of a cartrige... there are only 2 AE calibers i believe (someone correct me if im wrong) theres the 50cal AE and a 41cal AE
AE stands for Action Express. and i believe theyre magnum rounds
just my 2 cents

only 2 cals im aware of
Scatch: It's established tradition that whenever you come up with a cartridge design, you name it after yourself... .308 remingon, .300 winchester magnum, .338 lapua magnum, .50 action express, .50 browning, etc...
its .308 winchester but Shoe is right its generally named after the person who makes it or the company that deisgned it
Damnit Jeff, you beat me to my mistake. I was in the shower and thinking "did I say it was a .308 remington? isn't it a .308 winchester?" So yeah, you got me. It's a .308 winchester. I'll blame the beers and the time of night, rather then admit that I was bass ackwards in my thinking....
hehe poor excuses ;)
its late here and i had a few beers too

anyways im curious about this .50 GI

300 gr @ 900 fps should be sweet
doesnt look like a hunting round unless home invaders count as game you can hunt
i don tthink this rond looks like it will over penetrate that much also
if you wear body armor and get hit by this its probably not gonna penetrate but you'd wish it did for a quiciker and less painful death
