Looking at the new Olympic PCR-8 upper. Can get several different cal. in it, but the one I am interested in is the new .243 WSSM. With a 55 g. bullet it runs at over 4,000 FPS. The bullet I would want to use would be the 95 g., still running pretty darn fast.

Questions are:
1- Anyone used one of these?
2- Pros or Cons for the .243 WSSM shell itself (will be used for shooting from 100 to 300 yrds and hunting, not for LE use)
3- Any other recomended rounds or uppers for the ar-15 (have a AR-10T , so no need for .308)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure you can get the AR in .25 WSSM, but what about the shell itself in a bolt action gun?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
How does everyone feel about the new short mags? History of the WSSM's? anything........
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks guys

carver, over the past week know i have been reaserching the EXACT same thing. Im interested in finding an ar-15 in something a little beefier than .223 also. I looked at the pcr-8 mag in botch calibers, 223 wssm and 243 wssm and decided against them. I read hooro stories of throat erosion due to the massive powder capacity and i think i found an alternative. An upper, sold for a very good price on www.model1sales.com (485 bucks w/ bolt) chambered 6mm PPC. This round is a necked up .220 russian and is VERY accurate. Its hols something like 300 benchrest records and 1 ragged hole at 200 yards isnt uncommon. i think i will buy a 6mm ppc upper with a stag arms lower, run me about 600 i guess. hope this helps

what about that............ The ar-10 option is a little too expensive to drag through the woods and bang on the tree stand. I have seen something about the 6mm ppc, quite a nice round! Now the upper you found at model 1 sales, what type of barrel does it have or do they give an accuracy guarante? (I am going there now) Does any one else make them? What about the mags for this upper: where do you get them and the cost?

What about off the shelf ammo in 6mm PPC, not gonna find that one at wallllllmart. I am not a hand loader, but I do know of a place to get it done, only in cases of 100. What is the best bullet for whitetail in the 6mm??

Stag arms????? Never heard of'em.........I am gonna check the web to see what I can find. The price you quoted of about $600 (total) is a great deal. Is it a cast or forged lower? Is it complete with stock and guts?

Thanks for passing along the info sledneck!

BOY....................when you take the 6mm ppc, 243 wssm and the 6.5 grendel - line them up and realy look at them it is going to be a hard choice.

pros: accuracy- all should do very well, can use a ar-15 lower.
cons: I am not a handloader and that is the biggest problem I can see. Must order ammo

on the 243 WSSM just how bad is the throat erosion. I realy will not shoot this gun that much, mainly for hunting and maybe a little plinking.

(off subject) Have you seen the new .25 WSSM? it looks very nice as well.

sorry, i replied this morning, i wasnt all the waya wake..i mita left out some deatils. The barrel is ER Shaw and is good quality. No accuray guarentee that i know of the i mailed Model 1 and they say 1/2 inch @100 yrds. Mags, well i heard 5.56 mags will work but you should have 7.62x39 magazines, these function perfectly. Stag arms complete lower im looking at is forged and precision machined, they are a small machining operation that made lowers for bushmaster i think and now sell their own on a smaller scale, check them out (http://www.eaglefirearms.net/stag_arms.htm)

check my post in the cartriege forum here about 6PPC, i have found it in a few places:
-http://www.pcammunition.com/pc6ppc.html

PS, keep me posted on your decision, like i said im looking to do the same

I have emailed Olympic to see when or if they are going to produce the .25WSSM. It looks nice as well.

Next thing is the barrel length, does anyone know where to get one in a 18" or 20" barrel?? Not the 24" that comes with them.

THanks guys

i believe that they (Olympic Arms) offers to change barrel length for $12/inch?

i decided against buying thier PCR-9 (9mm) Carbine a while ago because mags were $65 at the time, not sure what they are doing now that the ban is over
