Sure can....but note the operative words on the site:

These weapons are all NFA registered items.
Private individuals may purchase only while residing in a Class 3 State
You can look at what it takes for class three FFL ownership on the BATF website www.atf.gov

(By the way, with any of those FFL's, ATF reserves the right to search your property at will) Some people dont like that, lol.

What's wrong with a civilian owning a flamethrower?

I have a much better idea. I say that governments shouldn't be trusted with weapons. After all more people have died at the hands of their government than at the hands of their fellow citizens.

examples: ( Armenian massacre, Boshevik massacre, Stalinist purges, Nazi atrocities, Balkan bloodbath, Rwanda genocide etc.)

I'm with Mad, that's funny. Even more funny because it's true. And not being able to own a flamethrower? It's like not being able to own a .50. Sure nobody NEEDS one, but who in their right mind is going to walk into a gas station packing a 30+ lb. rifle? It would probably be pretty tough to conceal a flamethrower also.
And, as has already been said, you have to be class three to own one, and then you have to be able to afford it.

Please back up your claim: demonstrate the insanity. When has ANYONE in the United States used their Class 3 license to commit a crime? Hell, the odds are it HAS happened at least once, but I'm willing to bet you can't find an example.

Please don't try and label things as improper simply because YOU don't think so. Your 'belief' in something is not a foundation for an argument to others.

Only 1 case in the last 100 years if my memory serves correctly and the guy surrendered himself after using it to shoot someone illegally.

Was that guy class three or did he have it illegally?

I know this has been said a lot, but look at Switzerland. Every guy there has a fully automatic weapon, and they are almost never used to commit crimes. I don't think that there are "utopian ideals" in Switzerland, either. I just think that if you're a bad guy and you know the good guys are all armed just as well as you are, you'd think twice about doing anything stupid.

The one case the guy legally had a class three weapon. There are more cases of class three weapons being used in crimes but there were not possessed legally.

If someone wants to go through all the paperwork and pay the federal transfer taxes they tend not to do anything illegal.

I have noooo idea where one finds ammo for a 40mm grenade launcher other than what they sell on that site. Everything else uses commonly available ammunition.

Flamethrowers need two things. Propellent gas, and the stuff that burns. I would think the stuff that burns is similar to Napalm. The propellant, maybe Nitrogen.

I would LOVE to see one of those 50 cals like the old 1917 Browning with the pintel mount, rock steady, etc...with a 6-24 scope bolted in place...Watch out at 3000 m!

Sort of.....One of the guys had a class III dealer license and bought all the guns legally but they were not intended to be used for personal use but rather for sale. The second he handed them out to others they were obtained illegally.

Didn't I hear that the one time a legally obtained class 3 was used illegally it was also a cop or something? As for Waco, that is one unfornutate circumstance of extremes I think. They weren't your run of the mill criminals, but true wackos. Koresh had something like three 15 year old "wives" didn't he? And he helped himself to his followers too if I remember right.

Plenty of Americans (such as us in California) are quite jealous, too. Like WestPointRanger pointed out: the second amendment says one thing, but obviously, some state governments find it nice to ignore it.
