If the scope on the Mosin looks funny it is, no mount under it hahaha hard to shoot that way but once you get used to it !!
The mount cracked and I have found a replacement for it on Ebay but it will not be shipped for a few days yet, before it cracked I was printing groups of 6" at 505 yards, I am not sure but I think that works out to about 1/2 MOA maybe a little more, I hope that I can get the new mounts to work as well.
The Colt 1911 has been through three wars,WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, I have the original Mother of Pearl grips in my safe they have a few cracks from misuse and abuse over the years but still all in one piece and I hope to keep them that way, The 1911A1 from Springfield has a coustom trigger Ass. and extended Beavertail, coustom Hoge wraparound grips, polished and ported ramp feed, beveled mag well.
with both pistols I am able to consitantly hit the top of a 55 gallon drum at just short of 400 yards.
The 1911 is stock except for a coustom trigger Ass.[/img]

Great looking nagant, I like the ebony forend tip and the monte carlo cheekraise. Shoots great too! Was it a carbine or an 91/30?

wow, 1200 foot hits with a 45 from a pistol...not sure about that one either...Must really have a drop to it lol. I read recently of a Marine sitting with his knees in his chest and elbows locked on his knees to hit a can at 100y with a `1911 and that one amazed me. He was a sniper instructor though.

from that little blade sight and a 5 inch sight radius...and a bullet starting out so slow anyway...can 45 acp even carry that far? I doubt it.

i can hit 100y with a pistol but really they loose accuracy byond 50y unless you got a pistol cal carbine you can shoot a little bit furtehr accurately

400y with a pistol like that is damn near impossible, no matchkings with sky high ballistic coefficients for a .45 ACP and with a 5" sight radius you wouldnt see the target with the bullet drop
then wind and all sorts of problems you'd have

Once upon a time me and some buds were being dorks and shooting at skeets with a 9mm pistol...It looked a lot like the rounds were impacting and kicking up snow almost 500 m away and the pistol was aimed into the sky

9mm should go slightly further than a .45 ACP but im sure either would drop fairly inconsistantly
remember reading somewhere that a 9mm will go 1200m but i never tested this... maybe at a 45 degree angle
hell even federal says the .22 LR is dangerous within 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 miles its right on the box.. im at work or i'd look at it to confirm

Side arms

Well I am sorry to hear that you all are not up on your 45's as you should be, my suggestion is to try a new challenge, put down your rifles for a little while and see just what can be done with some practice with what ever you are going to carry as a sidearm, I can not think of the ole boys name right off hand but on national TV (SHOOTERS US AND GUNS AND AMMO TV ) he has shown that with a colt 1911 much better accuracy than I have achieved is possible.

As for the beginings of the Mosin it started life as a 91/30 I only got to see pics of it with my Granddad in WWII before NEW ENGLAND ARMS worked it over.

Ah cool, it was a bring back?

I don't think anyone here is down on the 45. Most people like it a lot for what it was intended for. However, it starts off at wht exactly? in the neighborhood of 800 fps? how much does it lose? I figure you are holding over for a drop of maybe 200 inches? But you can tell me more about it. How is it possible? Check out my 45-70 for example. 300 grain 45 cal round at 1880 fps...Zeroed at 100 m it drops 12 inches already at 200...400, I dunno how much its dropping...but thats zeroed at 100 m, not fixed pistol sights.

I'll agree to disagree.

Well, only three of us don't believe it can be done actually.

Jeff, would even the PC-9 be able to do that?

so that would be a 500 inch drop if the pistol was zeroed to 100y?

All I'm gonna say is...no way in hell I could do that lol.

FPS for the 45

There are a number of very fine loads for the 45 that will exceed 1000 and even 1100 Fps and you are right the drop is rather high, but still only in the 180" range at 400yds now at 250 yrds you have lost 200fps and you will have lost approx. 160.95 ft lbs of energy if you start with 497.65ft lbs of energy.

For anyone reloading the .223 I would like to bring up the Recall By Lee Precision on the FULL LENGTH RESIZE DIE with the date code of C4, found just above the threads and after the caliber markings, this can produce headspace problems that can be hazardous to your health.

If you have any Questions you can go to ([email protected]) for information on free replacment

I think ya just guesstimate what a couple hundred inches of drop should look like lol...how do you tell where you are hitting?

About the Lee dies, yep saw that in a magazine

That was coming straight from the heart, I can feel it.

Never shot a 1911 but like I was saying, I fired a 9mm at a skeet, holding the pistol at a 45 degree angle almost and it looked like the rounds were kicking up snow at 450 m...I don't know how hitting anything at that range can be accomplished, and thats why I'm disagreeing

Wow, just for the fun of it, I dropped the load into the trusty ballistics calculator.

Sierra 230gr FMJ Match (the highest BC I could find for a sierra .45 bullet)
1100 fps
zeroed at 50 yards (25 would be more accurate for pistol sites).

The drop at 400 yards would be 290 inches !! (Yes, that is over 24 feet). Thats some serious hold off!! :D

wow, thats a pretty fast round, Mel!

I never knew that a 45 ACP could push a 230 that speedy...thought it was more like 880 tops.

As I lose my ignorance my respect for it grows lol...Respected it a lot already mind you...but in a carbine...hmmm....
