Can the Stoner design be saved? here is my proposal........

Personally I would like to see the following, but maybe no body else thinks this is a good plan. If it is or isn't, why or why not?

- Keep the M16 design, but change some things-
1. change the cartridge to 6.8 SPC
2. change to bushmaster carbon material for construction.
3. use H&K's new gas system

?- are there flaws in my plan?

Personally I think its a really good idea. The gas piston would be better, and the caliber change might help.

Plus, the carbon sounds like a help when things get dirty.

The 6.8 is the best improvise I am aware of, so that is why I keep mentioning it.

As far as the carbon goes, I have seen a guy set it on the ground, and hit it as hard as he can with a hammer. I am talking full force here. Result? Not a scratch, try that with your AR, I sure as hell am not going to with mine.

the 6.8 right now is probably a must with how most people regard the killing power of our current 5.56mm
it will increace the lethality of the carbine for sure

i like the carbon reciever too...

Not a bad plan, but you'll need to convince NATO to use the 6.8. The gas piston "sounds" good, hopefully it lives up to its billing. I'm not familiar enough with the carbon material to go with it. If its pure carbon fibre, there are limitations and downsides, but it may be a different mix.

Personally, I like the 6.5 grendal.

Just my quick observations.
