Hey guys,
I found a couple of pics of my ghillie suit tonight and while browsing this forum i noticed someone else had posted a ghillie suit pic so i figured i would post mine. i had better ones but my computer crashed and these were the only 2 i could find. actually i was wondering what ideas anyone here would have on colors and how to apply the colors to my suit. i was thinking about maybe adding some gray's or light browns with spray paint but i don't how that will look, also thought about the rit dye approach, i think that should have been done prior to me putting on all the burlap. i do have some dyed colors in there but not so much you notice until you really look at it. any observations or suggestions would be appreciated. i figured i'd ask the guys who know.
Oh yeah, by the way thats me with my remington 700vls (with a aftermarket syn stock that will remain unamed)

Color seems a bit too uniform and monotone. You do need to add some additional colors to brake it up.

One thing to remember is that a ghillie suit is a constant work in progress, you are never "done". You are constantly changing the colors to match your area of operations. You need to have various means to add and remove natural veg also. If you are not sure of the colors you will be operating in, keep the colors lighter, as its much easier to darken a suit than it is to lighten. Oh, don't forget the boots either. Nothing looks like a black pair of boots in the woods, except for a black pair of boots in the woods.

I am currently building my ghillie, and i am very impressed with the Rit dye. I am making "the poor mans ghillie" i think ive spent 15 dollars on it so far, and the dye worked out very well for me. I would definantly suggest trying it, and if you dont like it you lose all of $1.50 :D

You need more brush on it... grab some of that stuff around you and cram it in there... making some of it stick up like if it were growing out of the ground up into the air. And its a bit monotone as well. More color mixed in there and it will be great. Good job on it so far.

If you can find a partner with sharp eyes (or a fellow sniper, but not all of us are that fortunate :? ) go out and set your ghillie up somewhere in an applicable environment and take something that will prop your ghillie up sort of like a person (a basketball and a well stuffed back pack used to work for me). Then you and your go on "the half stalk." This works best if there is a path you can walk on.

Stay on the path but make sure you hide your ghillie in a place that is actually complete line of sight visible from the path.

Give your partner a spotting scope and and a range limitation. My friends and I used to like 1000 x 1000 yards. If your friend is not a sniper you may want to reduce it.

Move freely up and down the path but stay on it.

This game is better with two people and two ghillies, but it works with one. It is more difficult to have a contest with one.

If you have a contest it is really fun to put a time limit on how long you can take to hide your ghillie. That way you both have a chance to look for signs of movement in the environment to tip you off.

Its all about color, i would suggest adding some light brown in there, because i dont think you'll be stalking in dead grass all the time. Heres a few pics of mine, on on 1 inch grass and the other out in the woods stalking. The thing with the last one is. 1 no ghillie pants, 2 you may notice im not even in any foliage, but have some on me. On that particular stalk, i wasnt spotted, even after the second shot. So all in all use a lot off foilage, and go for a base color. Ive come to notice a light od green/light brown works in a lot of areas.
