In no particular order, I present what might be the greatest metric rifle rounds:

8mmx57mm
7x57mm
6.5x55mm
7.62x39mm
6mm PPC
7x64mm
9.3x62mm
6.5x54mm
8x68mm
7x66mm Vom Hofe Magnum

Have I left anything off the list? What do you think?

As far as the most impact on the world... obviously the 7.62X39mm would win. But its obviously not the most productive caliber for "all purpose" use... on the other hand... the 7.62X54R has been around for over a hundred years and is still used by many countries as a sniper caliber... and a machinegun caliber. Any one who has been on the recieving end of a PKM 7.62X54R machinegun will tell you of its power... I personally hold the PKM and its 7.62X54R caliber in very high regards. Also... the SVD series of rifles and copies have made a large impact on the world... for better or for worse. 7.62X54R would have to be my pick... its over one hundred years old and is still in the prime service for many countries in both rifles and machineguns.

7.62X54R for me.

Oh, well mad had already mentioned the swede, I was just adding to his list.

Indeed, my vote goes to the swede as my personal favorite metric cartridge. Legendary accuracy and with modern loads (lapua, norma) ballistics that are as good as the .300 Win Mag at long range, for about half the recoil and 2/3 the cost...

Now we are talking!!! I voted for the Swede in part because of its versitility on paper, and in part because I'm have Jered build me one in a hunting rifle profile the most gorgeous wooden stock. I'll post photos when I get it all resolved. :D
