With Varget not available till next spring, I needed to find a new load with something I can get. Im a big Hodgdon fan specifically their Extreme powders. Went to my local reloading store and there was a 8lb jug of H4895 on the counter. Using Lapua brass and Sierra 175gr MK I worked from 38-43.5gr. My final load is 43gr with a SD of 6 and ES of 13, and avg velocity of 2772fps. First 3 shot group was approx .4 moa.

I've use 43.0 gr of this powder in my 26" Krieger barrel and got MV average at 2793 fps with SD of 8.9 and ES of 21, but my group with this load was 1.210 MOA. At 42.0 grs the MV was at 2729 fps and the SD was 3.7 and ES of 10 with a .451 MOA. With is 42.0 gr, my best group was .294 with 10 rounds.

I really like this powder for its consistency and ease of metering.

From 42.8-43.4gr the velocity range is 2770-2790fps

I probably should have mentioned too that in my gun this 43.0 grs of H4895 was giving me pressure signs (e.g. ejector swipe). So, I never tried loads of any more than that.
I got ya, I tested up to 43.5 and got minor signs.

I'll have to give this powder a try. I switched back to 4064 behind 175smk. Use 42grs and leaves a nice little hole. I'll have to check my fps again since I got my new chronograph in. But I was using 155smk with 47grs of varget and that was a good shooting round. This is a 5 shot group with 175smk, 42grs of 4064, 2.9 oal, 210m primers, fed brass. 100 yards. (200 yard range was flooded)

I too have gotten good groups with 4064. 3 years ago I got back into reloading in a big way by following Orkans load development processes when Varget was about as available as pixie dust. I started using 4064, and now that Varget availability is back to pixie dust status, I’m glad I went with 4064.
