Tasco scopes can be hit or miss, they are definitely "cheap" in both price and construction. I have a Tasco world class ($130 I think I paid) on a Ruger Hawkeye in 7.62 x39 and it has held zero for several years over several hunts. But in truth it has been the only optic of any quality that I have had of theirs. All other Tasco scopes I have encountered have ended up in the trash. That scope may be fine for your use but as was mentioned earlier it may degrade without warning. An older rem 700 should have considerable accuracy potential as long as the barrel was not shot out. Since you inherited the rifle and I assume you have no money invested in it, I would save up for something nice, There are a great deal of good optics out there between 500-1000 USD You did not mention a budget so I am not going to throw out a random list of scopes. This forum is actually a good place to find used optics at decent prices.

P.S. The Stiener GS3 is a great recommendation at that price.
