I am puzzled here..how does a silencer work..i mean how can a piece of metal make another peice of metal not make noise...whats in the silencer..

I was goonna post this as a new topic but I saw this.

How can I make a silencer/sound supresser for my Powerline pellet rifle? I want to do night shooting but its loudness wou ld get the police in my yard. What could I do?

After I posted above, I was reading abot paintball silencers. ATF doesnt like em to much ehehe.
