thinking of getting a howa 1500 varminter barrelled action in .308, mating it to a bell and carson medalist stock, and fitting a military combat optics 3-9 x 56mm scope

sound like a good setup for someone just getting into long range precision shooting???

from my research it should make a good very accurate setup

I don't know a lot about the Howa, but what little I hear is good. I am not sure if there are any aftermarket parts or not.

not really worried about the availability of aftermarket parts, this is going to be a budget minded gun that i will be able to put together for under a grand and hit the range, if i can get it to shoot moa i will be very happy

Is there a reason you want such a large objective for a moderate-magnification? I can't see anything wrong with it, but isn't it a touch bulky?

The only problem I see is that it raises the scope too high off the rifle, causing some very weird cheek welds unless you have a raised cheekpiece. 50mm is about as high as I like to go....
