I was watching Death Wish 2 the other night and he was using an auto pistol that fired a cut down .475 or something very similar. Does anyone make pistols that fire cut down rifle rounds in large caliber?
Most like the .44 Auto Mag. They pretty much wanted a .44 magnum with a rebated rim for cycling in a semi-auto pistol. So they took a .475 case and cut it down to duplicate a .44 mag with a rebated rim. (if memory serves me correctly)
Well, now that you mention it, that sounds more correct. Its common knowledge to just use a .45 cal bore brush as a chamber brush for .308 caliber rifles. Which would put the diameter of the case just about right for a .44 bullet
well i was checking on a site that mel had posted in one of the earlier topics, it looks like the 44 automag does in fact use a .308 case
{edit} wait just noticed that the rims are a slightly different diameter
I read somewhere that for the .44 Automag they used cut down .30-06 brass, not .308. Of course, a cut down .308 shell would be pretty damn much the same thing as a cut down '06 shell, but that may account for the ever-so-slight difference in rim diameters...
