This may be a Viet Nam era M-14 base but I have forgotten.

That is a AN/PVS-2 Starlight scope mount o the M14.

Back in the day my dream project was to duplicate a Vietnam set up and go night plinking. But I’m Canadian and they made a law preventing us from taking M-14 out of the house. That took care of that. Now they are planning to ban any semi at all.

There was a small club of guys near me about 20 years ago. They got together on moonless nights and set up good targets and plinked in the dark with all sorts of old tech NV scopes. I really wanted to do that. Now with thermal scopes it’s too easy.
