Been looking to 'extend my range for a while now. Reading lots of articles and reviews on rifles that offer more consistency at longer ranges than I'm accustomed to.
So Wife and I stopped by a gun shop, she was wanting a new holster for a Beretta PX4 she bought last week. She found one she wanted to try.
In the meantime, I decided to buy a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 creedmore.
Now to research an optic and bipod. Still a while before range time with this one.

I am new to a stock with this much adjustability, so a question for the experienced here.
The optic and rings aren't here yet. In the meantime should I be dry-firing to (A) learn the trigger and (B) be adjusting the butt stock LOP, can't, height now? I know comb height has to wait for the scope.
Thanks for helping.

Bipod arrived Monday.
Bought a Plano case yesterday.
Scope arrived today as I was leaving for work. Brought it with me so that I can monkey with it before I get home Monday and mount it

I had an RPR that started as a 6.5CM, I then rebarreled it to a 260 AI. I also changed pretty much everything else but the action and generally I liked the gun. I never got off into the buttstock adjustment weeds though- with any gun. I set up the comb and length of pull and go shoot. I know it's said that you need to fiddle with this and that and
get it perfect, and fundamentals are, well, fundamental, but sometimes I think we make mountains out of molehills

In its early form. I changed the stock to an XLR and Duracoated/Cerakoted it OD green

Set the LOP to around the same as my other long guns. It's what I'm used to.
Mounted the scope, set eye relief and comb height.
Bore sighted at 25 yards to be close to paper when I eventually get out to shoot.

Been dry firing, trying to find a comfortable position, building muscle memory, and trigger feel.
Bought some snap caps, they won't chamber. Live ammo cycles just fine.

Four months and still a virgin. Too many projects and limited time away from work.
Still dry firing when I can. Got a membership to a range about 10 minutes from my house that has 1,000 yard lanes. BLM land is closer with essentially unlimited range, but that's off limits to shooting most of the year due to fire restrictions.
Finally found large rifle primers so I now have everything to, eventually, reload the brass.
I had tentatively thought of taking time Monday to go to the range, but snow is forecast. In the frickin desert. We're over 110° most of the summer.
Maybe I'll work on setting up the new reloading bench I got for Christmas.

I finally got it out to the range. But it was stressful. Cascading pressure that ended on a (shooting) positive.
-Stress 1, I've never shot this rifle or any rifle like this.
-Stress 2, I've never shot at this gun range before. Like being the new kid on the playground a month after the school year started.
So I got set up for my first round on paper at 25 yards. My bore sight was good as I was very close. I made adjustments and was tempted to head to 100 yards, but fired a second (single) round. As I thought, I adjusted double what I should have. Dialed back for #3, about where I want it.
So I move to 100 yards. Everyone has left the range. Cool! I fire a 3 round "group". I'm still adjusting to the gun and noting adjustments I need to make to it. Dry fire is close for learning the gun, but live fire required more.
These three rounds were 8" high.
-Now Stress 3, Wife is calling me. She headed to Phoenix (on Stupidbowl Sunday) with a friend to get a horse. Her truck broke down 150 miles away, with a horse trailer, and a horse. AAA won't tow the trailer with a horse in it. So I ask "do I come and get the trailer?" "Come get it".
So I start to pack up and I get a message "her boyfriend can get the trailer". So I call her, is he or isn't he? "He can". IS HE OR ISN'T HE?" He is.
I've already adjusted the scope from the first 100 yard group (I think). I'm going to shoot the last 4 in the mag (lower right)
I'm satisfied so far.

I was going to head back to the range today, the forecast rain didn't happen.
But repaired Wifes pickup. An outer tie rod broke. So this morning was replacing that. This afternoon is at the shop for alignment.
