I think the .408 is an interesting cartridge, and the rifle apparently performs quite well. Max Popenker over at World.Guns.Ru has another page on the Chey-Tac Intervention.
As to carrying it into the field, I would want the rifle to have a different design for the furniture - like Mel said, too many things to get caught on the bushes, grass...
As far as the "package" goes, with the "ballistic computer" (read as: palm pilot), if you keep the same basic design with barrel length and contour you should be OK.
