Well, it did well enough in WWII, and the Serbian M76 of today uses it.... So I would guess some people think highly of it where sniping goes.

thats actually a tweede... a turkish mauser with a sweedish bbl.. from what i heard, 98ks and G43s were reviered in WW2 for their hitting power (WW2 german ammo was more powerful than both 30-06 and 7.62x54R)

here's a really good article on german snipers and 8mm in general, gives an idea of what sniping with a mauser was like...of course, theirs weren't at all customized like what we could do to one today, and the optics weren't long range Loupys either.

Found it on a british site first, but couldn't find that again.

The 7.92x57 IS is a very serious sniper's cartridge.

Sierra makes a 200 grain 8mm Match King. Such a bullet properly loaded would make a deadly long range performer.

The 7.92x57mm has never been properly loaded in North America. But in the right rifle, properly loaded it is absolutely deadly.

Remington made a 700 classic in 8mm Mauser and I would love to have one.

Mad.
