well I just bought my son a vsf 700 in 223 and the day I buy it I was checking out the bolt lock system and have seemed to lock the bolt in the closed position! remington tells me that the rifle has to be sent back 4 to 6 week wait. has anybody done this before? thanks for listening

chopper pilot,

Well, honestly I have avoided the ISS (J Lock) rifles and do not own one, primarily because of things like that.

If, after you get the rifle back, you want to replace that ISS, with a non ISS, it'll cost you a little bit in parts (about $50-$60) but its very easy to replace your firing pin and shroud with a non ISS

Actually, its the other way. J-Lock is slang for ISS. ISS is the official acronym (sp) something like "Integrated Security System". J-Lock is slang and came about because the lock portion where the key goes in is shaped like the letter "J".

Brownell's part # 100-000-447
Retail $65 plus shipping

This is the part number for a new firing pin assembly.
You can install it yourself if you have a vise.
