Okay, I had to kind of cheat on this one for times sake and just used the pic from my review on this rifle on the page, but I must keep everyone happy!!

Here is the CZ 527 in .223 I have. I reviewed it for the page and have held on to it so far. The review can be found here: http://www.snipercentral.com/cz527.htm

This little CZ is topped with a Burris Fullfield 3-9x with the ballistiplex reticle. I'm keeping this rifle around as a .223 shooter. Everyone needs a .223 right? I plan to break the kids in to big bore shooting with this little guy. Recoil is mild, and its a good .75 MOA rifle with surplus 55gr ammo. The detach mag is pretty slick, the trigger is pretty rough. It has a set trigger (by pushing the trigger forward) which I never use. Too light, and makes a long reach for the trigger. The standard trigger has a long pull with some notchiness. Overall, a decent rifle, though a bit pricey at $600+

now im sure there are gonna be many more tactical rifles to come
i think the .223 is great for teaching people how to shoot, no recoil to worry about
reading your review i see it likes M193 too which is great... inexpensive so you can get more range time for cheap

i tought my girlfriend to shoot with .223... good cal too

Yep, I own it. When I can, I like to buy the rifles I review from off the shelf, insures no "media ringers". But for high end tactical rifles, the SC budget doesn't allow for a purchase... so I get media review rifles.

Hey, thats really cool. Mel takin one off the shelf and shooting that kinda shows what the average guy reading the review can expect if he just goes out and buys a rifle. You gotta wonder about review in things like gun magazines...Do they really just pull a rifle at random and ship it off to "Guns monthly" or whoever to review? I dunno...Hard to belive ALL of what you read in the same magazine when the guy who is reviewing the new Remington...is reviewing it on a free hunt that Remington payed for and accompanied by Rem PR people lol.

Nice looking rifle though. It looks great and has a real "custom mauser" flavour to it.

Yep, very true. Thats the reason I like to buy them off the rack. (when the company can afford it). You know you are getting a true production rifle that way. Perhaps someday we'll be able to do that with all the rifles we review, then we would be certain to have unbiased and accurate rifle reporting....

- I'd love to be able to purchase a rifle as easily as that. Unfortunately, in Canada or the UK, there is no chance of that happening. Perhaps in the States there is that possibility, but that's also doubtful.

To get a CCW you go to the county courthouse and pay 45 dollars, get two background checks to make sure your not banned from owning firearms, get fingerprinted. and your done. itll be there in the mail in 8 weeks.

I think he just meant being able to afford any rifle he wanted to evaluate, without having to ask a company to send him one has been tweaked in the way buying one off the rack wouldn't be. Anyway, from what I know having talked to you guys for a while now, Spade is right. As long as you have proof of age in most states, ya bought it. Check out Deadcenter, he bought his with a drivers license.

Don't want to get too off topic....but...

And for Mel and the site...Its gaining new members and visitors all the time. We never know where an SC1 might end up...who will contact him or who will want one. I know its not the point here, but right now with civvie firearms we're in the age of the firebreathing magnum. RUMs abound and the average hunter just NEEDS 500 m reach, even if he can't use it. Tactical gadgets and doo-dads are starting to find their way onto more hunting rifles every time I open a magazine. A little exposure could go a looong way. If anyone here follows magazines, think about what Jack O'Connor did for the .270 win and Winchester Model 70. Or what Elmer Keith did for 44 magnums when they were new on the scene. Right now is a cutting age time for people with the skills of everyone here on this board, really. Just look at how many things have "Varminter" written on them when you know its just a buzzword for sniper. The old "win 94 and 30-30 will do anything a hunter needs" days are fading...Even eastern deer hunters who never take a shot past 100 m are fretting over group size and benchrest accuracy. Look at the boom synthetic stocks went though.

To get a PAL (Possession & Aquisition Liscence) they run you through a Seapick (Background Check), then they suffer you through a 24 hour course (It's not all at once), then they make it hard as Hell to actually get to the point where you can walk up to the counter with the rifle in your hand and buy it.
"Do you have your PAL?"
"Yes, here you go."
"FAPC?"
"Yes, under the PAL."
"Driver's Liscence?"
"The PAL is a picture ID, why do I need that?"
"So we know it says who you say you are."
"That barely made any sense but OK... here's my driver's liscence."
"And a second piece of ID."
"I don't have one."
"Then you're screwed."
"Thanks."
Fifteen minutes of my life I'll never get back. Like I said before, I envy you. Then the rifle itself costs anywheres from 50-950 dollars, depends on what you're buying.

If Mel were to increase exposure, he'd get more orders, yes, but then he would have to create a new manufacturing process and take on skilled workers to assist him in the creation of the SC-series of rifle. Not really a bad thing, increased supply means decreased price (Usually), but in order to do that, he'd sink a little below the debt-line. Little, or a lot. I don't know how expensive the tooling would be.

My safety course was 8 hours tops, didn't learn anything. Read the headstamp of cartridges, learn how to see if a firearm is loaded...blah, blah...

And now when I buy firearms here I just have to sign a book, make a two minute call to the CFC, and off I go.

About Mel's site. Heck, some custom rifles only sell for 1000 dollars...and people pay half of the price for Mel's rifle up front. I think if there was that much demand, he could cover his costs based on that.

Don't feel too bad AK. Jeff850 and I both have insane waiting periods for every gun we buy (despite how many we may already own), and we're only getting worse.

Of all the states (excluding DC), I think California has banned the most weapons. It's been speculated that CA will be fire-arm free in thirty years, or so... which is why Phoenix and Vegas are booming in population growth.

end up being about 3-4 weeks
only bought 5 guns from a regular dealer... the rest were all from my uncle
ive legally gotten around that 14 day wait crap for the most part that way

In terms of the SC rifles, yeah, I could probably push and expose them much more, but I want to take it nice and slow. The pace of sells is about what I want, allowing me to perfect the process and grow new models slowly. The SC3 I am very excited about. The SC2 model will be interesting and I'm still working out the numbers on it to see if it'll really work or not.
