The actual level of sound does not increase as far as the number of decibels produced. What makes you think it is louder is because the sound now goes out 90 degrees from the barrel and not downrange as it would without a brake. I have muzzle brakes on my 7mm rem mag, 25-06 and 300 rem ultra mag and they are all loud. My 7 has a KDF brake and the others have Brileys. What is your brake?

some brakes push the noice directly back at you heh
the brake on my M4 Carbine makes my M4 slightly louder than my other .223 because the noise is being pushed back twards me from the muzzle brake
its not much louder but its a little bit louder heh
